Removing and Installing the battery

Before disassembling the computer, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

  2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.

  3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer.

  4. Remove the bottom cover

To remove the battery:

  1. Using the pull tab, disconnect the battery cable from the system board.

  2. Remove the four screws (M2x3) that secure the battery to the palm-rest assembly and keyboard shield.

  3. Lift the battery off the palm-rest assembly.

How to find the product model of your Dell computer

  • Windows System Information (also known as msinfo32) shows a computer summary menu with details such as your model, manufacturer, and operating system version.

What to Know

  • Easiest: Find the Dell Laptop Model Number on the identification label on the laptop.

  • Next Easiest: Right-click on Start > System > Settings (About) Screen > Device specifications.

Use the Windows System Information Window

  1. Use Windows + R shortcut to open the Run box.

  2. Type "msinfo32" in the Open field.

  3. Press Enter.


Go to Windows Settings

  • The Windows System screen lists the device configuration. There are several ways to access the Settings screen. This method takes you directly to the About screen, where the Dell mentions the model number.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select System from the menu.

  2. Windows Setting will open on the About screen.

  3. The make and model number are listed under Device specifications.
